Recognizing Outstanding Volunteers in our Community

Nominations for my Annual Community Recognition Awards are Now Open!

Dear Friends,

Do you know someone working hard to make a difference in our community?

Every year, at my Community Recognition Awards, I recognize individuals and groups who are doing just that.

Yesterday in the Ontario Legislature I announced that nominations for the Community Recognition Awards are now open! Please see below for my statement.

I am writing to encourage you to nominate your colleagues, volunteers, friends or neighbours. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate what people are doing to help others and to make our community in central Etobicoke even better.
Please see below for further information outlining the four award categories for both volunteers and exceptional staff who have gone above and beyond their regular work. Recipients must live, work or volunteer in Etobicoke Centre.
The deadline for the nominations is Wednesday, November 15, 2017. The nominations can be mailed, emailed or faxed to my office.
The recipients are selected by a community based Selection Committee who have themselves been very active volunteers. The Committee usually selects a number of recipients for each award.
The awards will be presented at my annual New Year's Levee at the PLAST Huculak Centre on Sunday, January 14, 2018.
I hope that you will consider nomination someone and that you will join me in celebrating their accomplishments on January 14th.

Additional Information:

We try to keep the nomination process simple. A letter of nomination should be sent by the nominator stating the reasons why that individual or group should receive the award and give some specific information related to the nominee’s service to Etobicoke Centre. Those nominated must live, volunteer or work in the riding.

Please identify the award for which the person is being nominated (eg. service to the community by youth or by professional staff). Resumes may be included. Supporting documents are welcome and may include letters or emails from organizations, colleagues or friends, articles from newspapers or an organization’s newsletter.

The community based Selection Committee reviews all the materials provided for every nominee and makes the decisions on the choice of recipients for the different categories of awards. We usually have multiple recipients for each award.

Member's Statement Re: Community Recognition Award Nominations

One of the things that makes Etobicoke Centre such a wonderful community to live in is the people who work so hard, who volunteer, who give their time and their money to help make other people’s lives better.

Since I was elected, I have carried on a yearly tradition of recognizing people who made a positive difference in the lives of others, at my annual Community Recognition Awards. The awards are given to people living, working or volunteering in Etobicoke Centre who have made a real difference in the lives of other people in our community.

The recipients recognized come from a range of ages and backgrounds, and they contribute in a range of ways, from caring for seniors to engaging youth to volunteering in their parish.

I’m pleased to announce that the nominations for the 12th annual Community Recognition Awards are now open. There are a number of categories to be nominated for: outstanding volunteer service to the community, outstanding volunteer service to seniors, outstanding volunteer service to the community by youth, and outstanding service by professional staff, employers or employees.

Nominations can be submitted to my constituency office at 416-234-2800 or by emailing me. The deadline for submissions is November 15. I encourage everyone watching to submit a nomination for someone in our community.

After we have collected the nominations, a committee of volunteers will select the recipients. I will have the opportunity to recognize these folks at the Community Recognition Awards on January 14, during my annual New Year’s levee.

I’m honoured to represent our community in Etobicoke Centre, and honoured that we have so many wonderful individuals. Let’s recognize them.
