$1.6 M in new funding for Etobicoke General Hospital

Etobicoke General Hospital receiving provincial funding for repairs and upgrades

Health care is one of the most important issues for my constituents in Etobicoke Centre. One of my top priorities has been ensuring that the Government of Ontario delivers consistent, quality, and accessible health care to our community. That’s why I have been advocating for the expansion of Etobicoke General Hospital and why I was so pleased when last year the Government of Ontario committed $358 million towards Etobicoke General’s expansion. Construction is currently underway.

Today I am pleased to announce that the province will be providing $175 million in 2017-18 to hospitals across the province to keep them in a state of good repair, so patients can continue to receive high-quality care in a safe and healthy environment.

As a result, Etobicoke General Hospital will receive more than $1.6 million this year through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund, to make critical improvements to their facilities, including upgrades or replacements to roofs, windows, heating and air conditioning systems, fire alarms and back-up generators.

“Health care is one of the most important issues in my community. For Etobians, having accessible medical facilities that deliver consistent, high quality care is important. Ensuring hospitals are well maintained is a major part of achieving that goal. That's why I'm glad Etobicoke General is receiving funding that will keep it in the best possible condition.”
- Yvan Baker, MPP Etobicoke Centre

“These repairs and upgrades are crucial to ensuring all patients get the help they need now and in the future. By upgrading our hospitals’ infrastructure, we are helping Ontarians get the best health care close to home.”
- Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care

“As the MPP for Etobicoke North and as a doctor by profession, I am always glad to see money for improving our health care system in the riding. The funds announced today will be able to help Etobicoke General Hospital to continue to provide the best quality health care for the residents of Etobicoke and beyond. I am excited to see the major improvements to the hospital that this funding will help build come to completion.”
- Dr. Shafiq Qaadri, MPP Etobicoke North

“This important investment in infrastructure upgrades at Osler’s Etobicoke General site will help ensure the buildings are well-equipped and able to support the exciting revitalization and expansion work currently underway at the hospital. It is through relationships and investments like these, that we can continue to move steadily ahead with the transformation of Etobicoke General Hospital and bring greater access to the health care services needed most by the growing community.”
- Vanita Varma, Board Chair, William Osler Health System

  • As part of the 2017 Budget, Ontario is also spending an additional $9 billion to support the construction of new hospital projects across the province. This brings Ontario's total planned investment in hospital infrastructure to more than $20 billion over the next 10 years.
  • The government’s investment of more than $190 billion over the 13-year period starting in 2014-15 is the largest infrastructure investment in the province’s history. It is helping to build new child care spaces, schools, hospitals, public transit, highways and roads.
